Richi Foundation Receives Grant from Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease to Support Families Facing Childhood Cancer
BOSTON, Sept 1, 2026 — The Richi Foundation is delighted to announce that Alexion, AstraZeneca’s Rare Disease group has awarded the foundation a grant dedicated to supporting families affected by childhood cancer through the Richi House program. This grant marks the beginning of a meaningful collaboration between the global leader in rare disease and the Boston-based childhood cancer foundation.
The Richi House is the Richi Foundation’s flagship program, designed to address the profound psychosocial, emotional, and physical needs of families navigating childhood cancer. Located on an 8-acre campus, the House provides a comfortable, healing, and empowering environment for children with cancer, their siblings, and caregivers.
While hospitals focus on treating the disease, families often lack the long-term, holistic support that enables them to truly heal and thrive. The Richi House bridges this gap by offering monthly sessions that combine therapeutic activities, wellness workshops, peer-to-peer support, recreation, and education in a nurturing community setting. These sessions are organized in cohorts of 15 families who share the same type of pediatric cancer, ensuring the support is highly relevant and personalized.
At present, the Richi House operates cohorts for families affected by brain tumors, leukemia, and lymphoma, with plans to launch additional cohorts for sarcomas and other pediatric cancers, siblings and bereavement groups. The grant from Alexion will be exclusively dedicated to the continued development and organization of these vital monthly sessions.
“We are incredibly grateful to Alexion for their belief in our mission,” says Ricardo García, President and co-founder of the Richi foundation. “This support allows us to deepen our commitment to families, ensuring that no one has to walk the path of survivorship or treatment alone. By focusing on the family unit as a whole, we are helping to build resilience that lasts a lifetime.”
Through this partnership, the Richi Foundation and Alexion aim to elevate the standard of survivorship care, proving that healing happens best when clinical excellence is matched by a supportive, compassionate community.
